2012 New Members at The Fair Grove Farmers' Market

The Fair Grove Farmers' Market vendors are gearing up for the 2012 season.

Please note the New Market Hours for the 2012 season will be from 3pm till 6:30 pm Starting April 18Th till October 3rd. Rain Or Shine.

We would like to welcome 2 of our newest members for the 2012 Season

Janet Shuey of Fair Grove, Mo will be baking and making sweets and breads for the market. I can not wait to try her whoopie pies, Janet will be making applesauce bars, and cookies and brownies.

Diane Yinger from Stafford will be bringing plants and herbs and scented geraniums and berry plants.

Missie Weeks of Fair Grove is our pumpkin vendor and she has her new green house all done and will be selling all sorts of vegetables this year at the market.

Our Market is currently looking to add 3 new produce vendors to our market. So if you are interested in selling at the Fair Grove Farmers' Market please contact me at debsgourds@yahoo.com.

We are still in need of a meat vendor all so.

We will be OPEN Wednesday JULY 4TH.

The Market cafe will be serving beef brisket sandwiches and will have other menu items for sale during market hours.

The Fair Grove Farmers' Market vendors casted a vote and The Market Hours will be 3pm till 6:30 pm this year.

They felt that this would help our customers that need to get to church. And when they pick there kids up from school they can head to the market. We hope this will help you our customers'

2011 Season ends Oct 5th

The last day for the Fair Grove Farmers' Market is Oct 5Th. We had a very challenging season with the extreme heat cooking the produce on the vines and tree's. It is always sad for me to say good bye to the vendors and customers for the season. The Market will have a free cup a chili at the market for all the customers,(while supply last) prepared by Our Vendors.

It is our way of saying goodbye for the year and Thanking you for supporting our market throughout the year and shopping at the Market.

The market will have local honey and Leah's Tortillas, Sandra's Soaps and lotions and a few tomatoes,

The Blos will be there with there baked breads and goodies. Jennifer Farr with her pottery. Sean with his coffee.

So be sure and stop by and stock up on jams and jellies from Natures Lane. Get your hot peppers for your home made

salsa. I will have pumpkin bread as well as zucchini bread and my cinnamon Jelly.

Mr. & Mrs. Do will be at the market handing out free Forsythia Shrubs while supply last.

The Hot weather has been pounding and burning the produce on the vines. Our Vendors work hard to get the produce to the market.

The sweet corn will be at The market for the next 2 weeks.

Pleasant Hope, MO) -- It's the season for summer fruits and vegetables, and no one knows that better than a young lady from Pleasant Hope.

With her own business, and a flair for salesmanship that has customers coming back for seconds, she's on her way to one sweet career.

Just try keeping 6-year-old Chloe Gertner out of the family garden.

"She is an outdoor child," says Stacy Gertner, Chloe's mother. "She loves to be outside."

Stacy recognized her daughter's green thumb last summer when basil leaves caught her eye.

"We got to the point where she wanted to be the one that picked it, and she just got a bowl and would go pick me a bowl full of basil and finally she said, 'I want my own.'"

Her ever-growing harvest gave Chloe an idea -- a business plan -- to help finance her fancy lifestyle.

"What will you do with the money?" Joy asks.

"Go to Sea World," responds Chloe.

"How much money do you need to go to Sea World?"

"I don't know," says Chloe.

So with a little help from mom, and her baby sister, Chloe inventories, packages, and takes her goods to market -- the Fair Grove Farmers' Market.

Chloe tempts customers with samples of tomato basil soup and plenty of spoons.

If you think her sales pitch is a little soft, just try saying no.

"Would you like to try my soup?" Chloe asks potential customers.

"The soup was awesome," critiques a young customer. "Only two words to describe it: epic and awesome."

Customers can't get enough. Thus far, neither can Chloe.

"$22 dollars is what you're up to," Stacy tells Chloe.

"She wants to know if that's enough to go already. I told her not quite yet."

Undaunted, Chloe expands her sales territory and reaffirms her commitment.

"They gave her a free plant at the farmers' market, so that really got her interested in planting and taking care of things," says Stacy.

It's called Growing with Kids. And just watch her grow.

"Altogether you have made $35," says mom Stacy at the end of the day.

"Is that enough to go to Sea World?" asks Chloe.

"Not quite yet," replies her mother. "You need a little bit more."

Chloe sells three varieties of basil -- sweet, lemon and cinnamon -- every Wednesday at the Fair Grove Farmers' Market.

2011 Sweet Corn at The Fair Grove Farmers' Market

The Fair Grove Farmers' arrival of Fresh Corn on the Cob will be Wednesday July 6TH , along with Local Honey, Blackberries and Fresh Peaches. We look forward to the Corn every year.

It is a true sign that Summer is here, along with the heat. Jack Brooks goes to a great deal to get the corn to the Market, with his electric fences to try and keep out the raccoons , and with the extreme heat trying to keep his crops watered. The Fair Grove Farmers' Market vendors take great pride in the produce they bring to the market for the customers.

They work hard at the produce they bring every week. The local honey is truly local.

We are a grower producer only market and we are very proud of that fact.

Jerry Sutherland will be at the market with large sweet candy onions.

Becky Roark with the Family Nutrition Education Program from the Univ. of Missouri Extension will be at the Market handing out free information on family nutrition.

2011 Farmers' Market Champions of the Year

The Agri Missouri announced the 2011 Champion of the Year at the Fair Grove Farmers' Market. On June 29Th at 3:30pm.

This award is for someone or a couple that has gone above and beyond, and who has made a positive impact on your market

Larry and Josephine Dowell has won this award!

The Fair Grove Farmers' Market has a growing with Kids Club, we have 345 kids in the Club, each week the kids come to our Market for 6 weeks and get free plants or Seeds to grow there own garden.For 7 years we have had the privilege of having 2 Master Gardeners at our market that set up and hand out the plants or seeds and gives them advice on how to grow there own garden. They are a retired couple that donate there time every week for this award winning kids club.Larry Dowell is a Retired Dr. and his wife Josephine is a retired nurse. This year they will be awarded Champion of the Year from the MFA and The Agri Mo for the State of MO.

We have a special vendor Cloe Gertner that is 7 years old that will be selling her fresh basil she has grown herself. Chloe is a member of the Growing with kids club. She has been a member for 4 years.From the advice and encouragement from The Dowells Chloe has learned how to grow her own garden, at 7 years old.And know she will be learning the business skills of selling her own produce. How to be self productive in this day and age at a early age is so important.
Our Market strives on our Children.
The Dowells have gone above and beyond and have made a positive impact to The Fair Grove Farmers' Market and to the community.
To help raise awareness of the importance of Eating Healthy food and to be self producing.
And to strive to the parents the importance of not raising a couch potato but to teach kids to raise a real potato from there own garden. And how 2 people can make a difference in our children's life Like the Dowells.

Shane Schoeller our 139 State Rep and pro team speaker presented the Dowells with a House Resolution.

Barb Pate a registered nurse and one of our Market Vendors took blood pressure and talked to the customers on the best way to help lower your blood pressure with healthy eating habits.

The Agri Mo had a table set up at our Market that day all so for the 10,000 Garden Challenge

Fair Grove Farmers' Market June 22ND 2011

The Fair Grove Farmers' Market will have fresh peaches, blueberries, fresh farm eggs just to name a few items.

The baked goods are out of this world, baked items you can only find at our Market.

Leah's tortilla's are a big hit this year.

Tortillas - white & wheat; Sopapillas; Meat Tamales; Fruit Tamales; Chocolate Tamales; Mexican Egg rolls; Tortilla Warmers.

The Blosser's will have baked white bread, cinnamon rolls, and pie's and other yummy baked goods.

The Fair Grove Farmers' Market is a Grower and Producer ONLY MARKET!

You will not find auction produce at our Market. Our Vendors work hard to produce what they sell.

The Pottery class starts today for all Kids that have signed up. There is a $10.00 fee to help cover the cost of paints and clay. It is not to late to sign up. You can come to the market and get in on the Fun.

BlueBerries at The Market 2011

The produce is starting to arrive, each week you will find more and more produce, carrots, blueberries,

June 22ND the Peaches should be here.

Be sure and check back, when they will be at the Market for sure.

The last week for the kids club will be Wednesday the 15Th.

On the June 22ND Jennifer Farr will have her pottery class for any child that signs up. There is a $10.00 fee. This helps pay for the paints and clay and firing of the pots. The 22ND the kids will create there own pottery dish then on the 29Th they will come and paint there creation and then on July 6Th they will pick up there completed creation.

Market Umbrellas Are Gone

The Fair Grove Farmers' Market has a wide variety of Produce, Beef, Coffee, tortillas,crafts, and lots of baked goodies. Along with Rain Barrels and dogie treats.

Jack and Janet Brooks are at the Market with Local Honey. Kids you need to get signed up for the pottery class to start on September 1St. There will be $10.00 per child, each child will create there own pottery creation and will paint it. This item will be dishwasher safe that you create. Come and sign up. This will be limited to 20 kids.

And all so if anyone has any information about the Cafe picnic table umbrellas please come forward and Help Locate them. These were donated by Coke a Cola for the customers to be able to sit in the shade and enjoy there dinner, at the Market Cafe. It is a shame that people can not respect other peoples property and they have to take stuff out of the cafe that does not belong to them. See The Market Manager for any information you might have. This information will be kept confidential!

There will be a $20.00 reward for information that helps to get these returned to us!

The Family Pharmacy along with the Chamber of Commerce has donated bottles of water for the customers during these hot days of summer. There will be free bottles of water on 8/18 while they last.
